Enhanced hosting: new lower cost, and required for all CMS websites
A few years ago we introduced our enhanced hosting service for content-managed websites — sites running popular open source CMS platforms like Drupal, Joomla or WordPress.
Most of our clients took advantage of these enhanced hosting packages that ensured that their CMS software was kept up to date with timely security patches for the core system and any add-ons to tackle potential vulnerabilities to intrusion and hacking, as well as providing extra security and backups for peace of mind.
With web security an ongoing issue — for example, we witnessed a recent spate of attacks directed primarily at WordPress sites that were not kept up to date through which hackers could gain access to other sites on shared web servers — we are now compelled to deploy these enhanced hosting provisions to all CMS sites. We simply cannot afford a few negligent users who fail to update their CMS software to compromise the security of other client sites.
Effective 1 January 2013 we are therefore renaming the enhanced security package simply 'managed CMS hosting' and making it mandatory for all users hosting such websites. At the same time, to make this as cost effective as possible, we are reducing the cost of this CMS hosting as well as annual helpdesk support packages by up to 20%.
For users of non-CMS websites, the 'managed basic hosting' package will still be available at a reduced rate.
